HomeYou's figures cover a medium tree only and leave out hauling and stumps, which is why they look lower. No source publishes a survey for every Ocean County town; prices in Manchester, Berkeley, Barnegat and Stafford generally fall inside the Toms River range.

What actually moves the price here
- Over the house: Toms River and Brick lots are small, so many oaks hang over roofs and must come down in roped sections.
- Dead pines: pitch pines killed by southern pine beetle or drought get brittle and may need a lift or crane instead of a climber (see dead pine guide).
- Barrier-island access: narrow streets in Seaside Heights, Lavallette and LBI limit truck size.
- Season: late fall and winter are slower, and frozen ground protects lawns (see best time to remove trees).
- Bundling: once the crew and chipper are on site, extra trees cost much less each.
How to compare quotes
- Get the scope in writing: wood hauled or left, stump ground, cleanup, permit.
- Ask for the NJ Licensed Tree Care Operator number and an insurance certificate (how to check).
- Send photos showing the tree, the house and street access so quotes are comparable.

FAQ
How much does tree removal cost in Ocean County, NJ in 2026?
Published estimates put a typical single-tree removal in Toms River and Lakewood at about $500 to $2,300, averaging around $1,400. A small tree under 30 feet in an open yard is often $300 to $600; a 70- to 80-foot tree near a house can run $2,000 or more, and crane jobs add roughly $800 to $3,800 a day. These are estimates from third-party sources, not quotes.
Is stump grinding included in the tree removal price?
Usually not. Ask for it as a separate line. ProMatcher's New Jersey report averages about $4.28 per inch of stump diameter, and many companies have a minimum charge.
Why are quotes for the same tree so different?
Companies price risk, access and cleanup differently. A tree over a roof or power line must be taken down in roped sections, which takes longer. Compare quotes on the same scope: wood hauled or left, stump ground or not, permit handled or not.
Do I pay for a town permit on top of the removal?
In some towns. Toms River lists a $75 fee (waived for a dead tree) and Jackson lists $10 plus a $25 inspection fee. Replacement trees or a payment in lieu can also apply.
