Tree Removal & Stump Grinding in Lacey, NJ

Lacey Township, home to Forked River and Lanoka Harbor, stretches from bayfront lagoon neighborhoods east of Route 9 to deep pine forest west of the Garden State Parkway. Tall pitch pines close to houses, storm-snapped limbs and leftover stumps from old lot clearing are the jobs we hear about most. Tell us about your job and we'll pass it to one local, independent tree company that serves Lacey.

Tree permits in Lacey

Lacey regulates tree removal under Chapter 313, “Trees,” as amended by Ordinance 2024-18. The ordinance requires a permit to remove a street tree of 2.5 inches or more in diameter at breast height (DBH), or a non-street tree of 12 inches DBH or more, with a $75 fee; applications go through the Zoning Office (Ordinance 2024-18, Lacey Code Ch. 313). Properties in the Pinelands Area may also need a Pinelands Commission filing. Confirm current thresholds and fees with the township.

Local notes

On lagoon lots, trees often stand close to bulkheads, docks and neighbors' homes, so a crew may need to take a tree down in small sections or use a crane. Ask about access and cleanup when you get your quote.

Before you hire

New Jersey requires tree care businesses to be licensed through the NJ Board of Tree Experts. Ask for the company's Licensed Tree Care Operator number and certificate of insurance. For stump grinding, the free 811 utility markout is required before digging (NJ One Call).

Storm damage or a tree on a wire?

If there is immediate danger, call 911. Stay away from downed lines and report them to your electric utility. Then see what to do after a storm and what insurance usually covers.
