Tree Removal & Stump Grinding in Pine Beach, NJ

Pine Beach is a small residential borough on the south shore of the Toms River, between Beachwood and Ocean Gate. True to its name, its streets are lined with tall pines and oaks on compact lots, many of them sloping toward the river, so careful removals near houses, stump grinding and storm cleanup make up most requests. Tell us about your job and we'll pass it to one local, independent tree company that serves Pine Beach.

Tree permits in Pine Beach

Pine Beach's tree rules are in Article XV, “Trees and Shrubs,” of its land use chapter (Code Ch. 175, Art. XV). The code defines a regulated tree as one more than 6 inches in diameter measured 4 feet above the ground, or more than 2.5 inches for dogwood, ironwood, American hornbeam, eastern red cedar, Atlantic white cedar and American holly. A tree removal and replacement plan is required with new construction, limiting clearing in the yard setbacks. The Zoning Office reviews Tree Permit applications on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 PM at Borough Hall, and the borough posts its tree permit form on the same page (Pine Beach Zoning & Tree Permits). Call or email the Zoning Office to confirm what your job needs.

Common jobs in Pine Beach

  • Tall pines close to the house. On small lots there's rarely room to fell a tree, so crews take it down in pieces.
  • Hollies and cedars. These are regulated at a smaller size here, so mention them when you ask for a quote.
  • Riverfront wind damage. Nor'easters push hard across the river; pruning deadwood before winter helps.

Local notes

Pine Beach appears on the Pinelands Commission's list of Pinelands municipalities (Pinelands Commission). Because the Zoning Office reviews tree applications once a week, file early if you're on a deadline, such as a closing or a contractor start date.

Before you hire

New Jersey requires tree care businesses to be licensed through the NJ Board of Tree Experts. Ask for the company's Licensed Tree Care Operator number and certificate of insurance. For stump grinding, the free 811 utility markout is required before digging (NJ One Call).

Storm damage or a tree on a wire?

If there is immediate danger, call 911. Stay away from downed lines and report them to your electric utility. Then see what to do after a storm and what insurance usually covers.
