Tree Removal & Stump Grinding in Eagleswood (West Creek), NJ

Eagleswood Township is the small, mostly wooded township on Route 9 between Stafford and Little Egg Harbor, built around the village of West Creek. Its west side is pine forest inside the Pinelands, and its bay side runs into the salt marsh of the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge, so yards here mix tall pitch pines, oaks and red cedars with wet, low ground. Tell us about your job and we'll pass it to one local, independent tree company that serves Eagleswood.

Tree permits in Eagleswood

When we checked the online Eagleswood Township Code on October 26, 2026, we did not find a stand-alone tree removal and replacement chapter like the ones nearby towns adopted from NJDEP's model tree ordinance in 2024. The township's Chapter 241 (Stormwater Quality) and its zoning rules do cover tree removal, soil erosion and stormwater for major subdivisions and site plans. Because ordinances change and not every amendment is posted online right away, call the township clerk before removing a large tree, especially a tree near the road (it may be in the right-of-way) or on a lot you plan to build on.

Much of Eagleswood is in the Pinelands, where the New Jersey Pinelands Commission oversees clearing tied to development. Taking down a dead or dangerous tree in your own yard is a different thing from clearing a lot; see our Pinelands clearing guide for homeowners.

Local notes for Eagleswood

  • Pitch pines near houses: many West Creek homes sit under tall pines on sandy soil; dead or leaning ones should come down before winter storms (dead pine guide).
  • Wet ground by the marsh: lots east of Route 9 stay soggy, so trees uproot more easily in nor'easters, and crews may need mats or smaller machines to avoid ruts (warning signs).
  • Oaks and pests: spongy moth and drought stress have thinned oak canopies around the Pine Barrens (spongy moth guide).
  • Stumps: pitch pine can resprout from the base, so grind stumps or plan to cut back sprouts (stump grinding).
  • Neighbors: Stafford (Manahawkin), Little Egg Harbor and Tuckerton.

Before you hire

New Jersey requires tree care businesses to be licensed through the NJ Board of Tree Experts. Ask for the company's Licensed Tree Care Operator number and certificate of insurance. For stump grinding, the free 811 utility markout is required before digging (NJ One Call).

Storm damage or a tree on a wire?

If there is immediate danger, call 911. Stay away from downed lines and report them to your electric utility (JCP&L, 1-888-544-4877, serves most of Ocean County). Then see what to do after a storm and what insurance usually covers.
